Court Challenges GSI currently has filed more than 30 legal actions, which is now the largest copyright case of its kind in Canada involving government and government agencies, some of which include the following:
- GSI has initiated lawsuits against the National Energy Board, the Canada-Newfoundland Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board, the Newfoundland-Labrador crown-owned energy company Nalcor and the Canada Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board. In general terms, the claims against all three involve improper disclosure, possession, and use of GSI data.
- GSI has initiated lawsuits against some of Canada's major oil companies, including copy companies that have obtained GSI data from a third party or government, who are in possession of, or who have used the company’s seismic data without the proper licensing agreements or paying a fee. In some cases legal action alleges the data was illegally sold at a profit.

- Some of the largest firms in Canada like Ovintive has partnered with piracy copy firms to copy $70 million in GSI data and resell it, even Ovintive itself has sold GSI licensed and unlicensed data to other oil companies.
